Portobello - West (Kings Road) Beach

Once Portobello was a busy seaside resort where all the people of Edingburgh went to paddle in the sea. Now it still has it's sandy beach, and plenty of amusements and entertainments, although it is seen more as a peacful escape from city life.

This part of Portobello beach (Kings Road) is fantastic for dog walking at low tide. There are not too many day trippers as they tend to go to the beach further along where there are more amenities so you have no fear of your errant labrador wolfing down their picnic! There's plenty parking so you can roll right up to the beach, open the boot and let the dogs run. In terms of amenities there isnt much except for one pub which is very dog friendly. It has a beer garden which is really popular in summer. If you are wanting a day out with the family go to the beach further along and there are lots of cafes, restaurants and amusement arcades etc.
