About This Website aims to list all the beaches in the British Isles.

For the purposes of this website, the British Isles are considered to be essentially those described in the Wikipedia entry for the British Isles. This includes the islands of Great Britain, Ireland, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and other offshore islands. The term "British" is used here in the wider geographical sense, not a political sense (which is also why the website address is and not It does not mean "beaches of the United Kingdom" (which would be just England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), and nor does it mean "beaches of Great Britain" (which would be just England, Scotland and Wales).

If you are somewhat confused by the inclusion of Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands and other countries which are not part of the United Kingdom, possibly in the mistaken belief that "British" is solely a political rather than geographic term, then I would strongly recommend watching this excellent video by C.G.P.
